Kathmandu, 31 March: Despite widespread criticism, Sunil Bahadur Thapa has been appointed the Political Adviser of President Ram Chandra Paudel.
Former minister Thapa, who is a member of the Nepali Congress Central Working Committee, has been appointed as a political advisor by President Paudel.
President Paudel had previously appointed Suresh Chandra Chalise as Foreign Affairs, Chiranjibi Nepal as Economic Adviser and Baburam Kunwar as Legal Adviser.
Since the Prime Minister and his entire Cabinet is the adviser to the President, the the Head of the State is a ceremonial post, it is pointless to appoint additional advisers. Highlighting the financial burden to the nation by such high profile, futile, appointments, Journalist Tirtha Koirala has written in Facebook: It was believed that the constitutional monarch does not make mistakes. Ours was broken up during the reign of King Gyanendra. Now the third president, Ramchandra Poudel, will not make a mistake like it was said before. He’s appointed advisors like a cabinet, so there is no chance of him committing a mistake. But if the President’s ‘Council’ and the Government’s ‘Council’ clash, the pages of the Constitution will be separated.
