TRC and Constitutional Council bills enter House

Two most-awaited bills — the ‘Constitutional Council (Works, Duties, Rights and Procedures) (First Amendment) Bill-2079 and the Commission for Investigation, Truth and Reconciliation of Disappeared Persons (Third Amendment Bill-2079 have formally entered the House of Representatives.

Minister for Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma tabled both bills for consideration in the House of Representatives on Sunday.

The House meeting on Sunday endorsed the consideration proposal of the minister with majority votes after MPs delivered on those bills during deliberations. Though parties were not against the bills the ruling and the opposition were clearly divided into two groups on some arrangements in it.

With this, the most awaited bills to conclude the peace process have entered under the jurisdiction of the House job.

However, civil society leaders and human rights activists have strongly opposed the provisions inserted in the TRC bill.
