
Kathmandu, 24 March: Additional Inspector General (AIG) Basant Kunwar has been promoted to Inspector General (IGP) of Nepal Police. Kunwar was promoted to IGP by the Cabinet meeting this afternoon. Kunwar has been promoted to the vacant post after the current IGP Dhiraj Pratap Singh, who entered the police service in March,1993, will be compulsorily retired from Saturday due to his 30 years of service.
Inspector General Singh and his batch tried to extend the tenure by removing the 30-year service period. The debate about removing the service period also went on for a long time. However, the government continued the current system and selected a new leadership in the police force. With this, the previous team retires. Kunwar came under vacant leadership.
