Race for new IGP begins

Kathmandu, 4 March:A race for new Inspector General of Police (IGP) has begun and some members of the Prime Minister’s Personal Secretariat have initiated lobbying with Prime Minister as he currently holds the portfolio of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Dhiraj Pratap Singh, who became the IGP  last year, has 20 days remaining. From March 24, he is retiring according to the existing regulations. Along with Singh, three additional inspector generals of police will also retire on the same day,  due to their 30 years of service in the police force.So the IGP will be appointed from among the incumbent Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs). The post of five Additional Inspector Generals (AIGs) has been vacant for a long time.

Basant Bahadur Kunwar, Tek Prasad Rai, Sandeep Bhandari, Shyam Gyawali, Kiran Bajracharya, Meera Chaudhary, Deepak Thapa and Bhim Dhakal are considered as the main competitors based on seniority in DIG.
