On/Off the Record

By P.R. Pradhan
Now those architects of the present constitution have started to say that a single-party majority government is impossible under the present political system, which, they say “loktantra”. The picture is clear. Always, we will have a coalition government and always the trend of topple-down the government by other political parties in parliament. Horse trading becomes a normal practice and small parties, say, parties representing small groups and communities will have a key role in the formation and topple-down of one after another government. We cannot expect a strong government to last for a full term of the parliament tenure.
Moreover, the country’s economy is the major base of any of the political systems. Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel has cut down the size of the budget saying that the government was unable to manage revenue as expected. Poudel even said that the economic indicators are at a critical stage. Obviously, when we increase unnecessary expenditure, there will be pressure for increasing revenue. Unfortunately, the government is unable to generate revenue sources as the political system has not paid attention towards it.
This loktantra was imposed in Nepal just to destroy the Himalayan kingdom by those cunning foreign powers with a plan for serving their vested interests. Those, who wrote the constitution, were just the employees who received their wages while working for their foreign bosses.
Now, they are unable to say that the system has already failed but they are experiencing the reality. The nation is going to elect a new head of the nation soon. Our directly elected people’s representatives are the voters who are going to vote for the new President. Yet, they are unaware of who is the new President. Their party supermoms even don’t know who could be the new President. UML leaders are saying that the new President will be from the UML, on the other hand, Nepali Congress leaders are confident that the new President is going to be elected from their party. Maoist Center leaders are saying that the President should be elected through an all-party consensus. In fact, foreign intelligence agencies have become active and their candidate will become the President.
Supreme leaders of different political parties are giving big talks but the designers of the new coalition are foreigners. Unified Socialist Party chair Madhav Nepal said that his party was able to give a blow to the UML in the Sudoor Paschim Province as the chief minister from UML had to quit the post when he was unable to secure a vote of confidence. It happened not because of Madhav Nepal but because of the foreign powers. The foreign powers have not liked the UML-dominated present ruling alliance of the seven political parties. The Indo-West lobby wants a comfortable prime minister and also a comfortable president. Present Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal is a comfortable leader. Now, the same lobby is seeking a comfortable President so that the Indo-West plans can be easily imposed on Nepal. Therefore, the foreign powers are trying to break the present ruling alliance at any cost.
The incident of quitting the post of the chief minister within a month is the beginning, which may expand to other provinces and finally, it can be witnessed in the federal government as well.
Many state organs have already been non-functional. In such a state, the system has already collapsed and it has already been “clinically dead”.
Keeping alive an already dead body having multiple organ failures by using life-supporting equipment is an unnecessary burden for the nation.
