Kathmandu, August 12: Kishor Shrestha, former acting chairman of the Press Council Nepal and editor of Jana Aastha weekly, was arrested from his residence in Bagdol late this evening.
Police have not disclosed the reason for his arrest.
The arrest of Shrestha has been viewed as a violation of press freedom in the country.
A special police team, dressed in plain clothes, conducted a sudden operation and arrested Shrestha from his residence. According to eyewitnesses, the police team arrived at the residence and took Shrestha into custody.
Law enforcement authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the specific grounds for his detention or his current whereabouts.
