Ward office’s approval mandatory to marry !

Kathmandu, 28 January: In a bid to put and end to child marriage, Surunga Municipality-7 of Saptari district has made it mandatory for anyone wishing to tie nuptial knot get prior approval of the ward office.

The ward has made it mandatory to submit the birth certificate to the ward office before marriage and get approval. It is mentioned in the notice signed by ward chair Shiv Narayan Choudhary that action will be taken against those who are not allowed to marry under the age of 20 and who are involved in marriages, including priests.

In the notice, it is said that the date of birth of the bridegroom and the bride must be mentioned while printing the wedding invitation cards. Surunga municipality of Saptari is the first municipality free from child marriage in Madhes province, reports Kantipur daily.
