Kathmandu, 18 November: President Bidya Devi Bhandari, as per Article 76(2) of the Constitution, has called on the political parties to form a new government with the support of two or more than two parties represented in the House of Representatives (HoR) within seven days.
According to the Office of the President, President Bhandari has asked the parties to stake a claim for the majority of parliamentarians required for a new government by 5 pm on December 25.
It may be noted that least 138 lawmakers are required to secure a majority in the 275-member HoR. Nepali Congress (NC) is the largest party in the HoR with 89 seats, followed by CPN-UML with 78 seats and Maoist Center a distant third with 32 seats.
