The senior leader of CPN (Unified Socialist) and former prime minister Jhala Nath Khanal has filed a writ in the Supreme Court (SC) demanding re-election in Ilam-1.
Khanal on Tuesday filed a petition in the SC demanding re-polling of the House of Representatives (HoR) election in Ilam-1 claiming vote rigging in his constituency, Khanal has lost the election to UML’s Mahesh Basnet with a margin of 2957 votes.
In the writ petition, Khanal demanded that the election results announced by the election officer should be annulled and voting should be held again.
In the petition registered in the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court, Khanal has made the Election Commission, the office of the Election Officer of Ilam-1, the Chief Electoral Officer of Ilam, District Election Office, Ilam, the District Election Officer and the Federal Parliament Secretariat as opponents.
