Kathmandu, 12 November: In a bid to familiarise a myriad aspects of the Korean culture with Nepali people, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea (RoK) organised the 2022 Korean Culture Night in Lalitpur on Thursday evening.
Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Suresh Adhikari, Chief guest of the event said that Nepal and the RoK had enjoyed cordial relations since the establishment of the diplomatic ties between the two friendly nations in 1974. “We are planning to organise a Nepali culture festival in the RoK to promote Nepal as a tourist destination,” said Adhikari.
In his brief remarks, ambassador of the RoK to Nepal Park Chong-suk said that Hallyu, the Korean Wave, had become a global cultural phenomenon. “Nepal is a country that has shown a particularly strong interest in various Korean cultures. Now people all over Nepal are experiencing and enjoying Korean culture, starting from numerous families watching Korean dramas and movies at their home, through more than 100,000 Nepali people practicing Taekwondo, to young people enjoying K-pop music and practicing dance,” the envoy said.
At the Korean Culture Night, invitees enjoyed not only a K-pop performance, but also various programmes such as collaboration between a Korean and a Nepali musician, Taekwondo performance, Korean food, and videos on Korea.The RoK Embassy in Kathmandu has been organising this event since 2014. It, however, could not hold the Korean Culture Night in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
