
Kathmandu, 16 September: Political parties have been empowered to select candidates from the names recommended by the districts and provinces for the upcoming federal and provincial elections. After the district and province-level committees sent the names of all the aspirants to avoid controversy, the entire responsibility of selecting the candidates has fallen on the center. Aspirants are ‘lobbying’ and exerting more pressure on top leaders.
Around 20,500 names have been recommended to the center by the subordinate committee for the first past the post and proportional candidates of Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist (Centre), United Socialist, JSP and LSP until Thursday. At most, seven and a half thousand names have been recommended in the Congress. While the parties can nominate a maximum of 825 candidates in the direct representation of the House of Representatives, 110 in the proportional representation and 330 in the direct representation of the Provincial Assembly and 220 in the proportional representation.
