Kathmandu, 17 June: The International Relations Committee of the House of Representatives has summoned Chief of Army Staff (CoAS)Prabhuram Sharma to respond to the State Partnership Program (SPP).
Although the US embassy publicly stated that Nepal had twice requested to join the SPP, the Nepal Army issued a statement on Wednesday claiming that there was no agreement or understanding on the SPP. However, seven years ago, the then Chief of Army Staff of the Nepal Army, Rajendra Chhetri, sent a letter to the United States requesting to join the SPP as per the government’s permission.
After the letter was made public on Thursday, the parliamentary committee summoned CoAS along with Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka, Foreign Secretary Bharatraj Poudyal and Defense Secretary Kiran Raj Sharma at 9 am today.
