SC tells police to present hunger striker

The Supreme Court on Monday ordered the police to present before the court Lok Nath Upadhaya who was taken away on June 21 from Pashupati Aryaghat where he was fasting onto death demanding a cleanup of the polluted Bagmati River. Upadhaya was admitted to the Teaching Hospital after being picked up from Aryaghat in a critical condition on the 49th day of his fast. Hospital records show Upadhaya was delivered to a policemen with identification tag No 300447 on July 13 after which he has not been traced. Upadhaya was also demanding the better management of Pashupati Nath whose head priest is traditionally Indian.
