Even as the 100-day honeymoon period for the ruling UML party ends, there are clearly discernible indicators pointing in the general direction of a more aggressive, even confrontational, role by the Nepali Congress which, all said and done, does not seem to have been able to digest its postelection as main opposition. While there were signs, as far back as a month or so ago, that the Congress would be taking a tougher line vis-a-vis the UML in the near future, that has been made amply manifest at the Congress recent Maha Samiti assemblage where, among other things, that party’s leadership publicly claimed that it is in a position to dislodge the minority government at any time of its choosing.
