Kathmandu, Sept 1: More than 20 bodies have been found inside a single house in Betrawati, located in Ward No. 10 of Bidur Municipality, Nuwakot.
The bodies are believed to be those of people killed in the massive flood that swept into the Trishuli River through the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa on Wednesday, August 27, according to Bipin Regmi, Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Nuwakot.
Regmi said the exact number of bodies has not yet been confirmed.
“Yes, several bodies have been found inside a room of the same buried house in Betrabati. However, because it is raining and it is already night, we have not been able to determine the exact number,” Regmi said.
A photograph from a trusted source shows around two dozen bodies scattered inside a single room.
Mangal Tamang, a ward member of Bidur Municipality, said 22 bodies were found inside the house.
“Today, 22 bodies were found in the same house. It is a large house located slightly above Ghanti Ghar. We had requested that a drone be sent to inspect the area,” Tamang said.
He said a team including additional security personnel reached the house today and found a large number of bodies.
“Five or six bodies were taken out of the house today. The others are still there. An attempt was made the day before yesterday but it was unsuccessful. Another attempt was made yesterday, but that also failed. Today, personnel from the Armed Police Force also went there, and many bodies were found. Sixteen bodies are still there,” he said.
“Many of the bodies are in a condition where they cannot be identified,” Tamang added.
Police said rescue and search operations at the house would resume Tuesday morning.
