The government has finally succeeded to tame controversial general manager of Gorkhapatra Corporation Bastant Prakash Upadhyay by appointing Krishna Murari Bhanadari as the executive chair of the corporation. After the appointment of executive chair, GM Upadhyay will be barred from taking any financial decision in the corporation.
He and his close aides in the corporation were accused of misappropriating a huge amount of money.
Upadhyay, who has challenged the government by filing one case after another in the Supreme Court, disobeying the instruction of the minister and harassing the editors of the corporation’s two dailies for months is now likely to be relieved from the post after the Supreme Court annulled his petition of contempt of court filed against the government and the ministry sought third clarifications from him.
Sunday’s Cabinet meeting appointed senior journalist Bhandari as the executive chairman of the Gorkhapatra Corporation (GC).
Bhandari, a former columnist of Kantipur daily is regarded as a clean journalist.
The government also approved the resignation tendered by the Gorkhapatra Corporation’s chairman Govinda Pokharel.
