Kathmandu, October 9: The Mugling–Kathmandu section in the Prithivi Highway has been closed indefinitely after a section of the Prithvi Highway subsided at Galaudi in Ward No. 5 of Gajuri Rural Municipality, Dhading.
Reports state that two-way traffic along the affected section had come to a complete halt following the subsidence.
A large section of the road has reportedly caved in, leaving the area in such a condition that even pedestrians are finding it difficult to walk through.
The closure of a major highway just ahead of Dashain has affected passengers returning home for the festival, long-distance vehicles and freight transport. With no certainty about when the road will reopen, travellers are likely to face further difficulties.
Earlier, traffic was disrupted for at least 15 days after another road subsidence incident in the Gajuri area of Dhading. The latest incident at Galaudi has heightened concerns about highway safety and traffic management.
As the closure may necessitate the use of alternative routes, travellers are advised to check the latest road conditions before setting out on their journeys.
