Five Bangladeshi nationals taken into APF custody

Kathmandu, Nov 3: Police have taken five foreign nationals into custody for allegedly living illegally and in hiding at various locations in Kathmandu.

The Armed Police Force (APF), Nepal, detained them on Monday evening.

A joint team from the APF Intelligence Bureau and APF Nepal’s No. 18 Battalion took the five into custody and handed them over to the Department of Immigration for further action.

Those detained have been identified as Bangladeshi nationals Mohammad Kurban Ali, Jahingir Alam, Ronit Roy Chowdhury and Akam Abdullah, along with Rafat Miha, a Brazilian national of Bangladeshi origin.

During a search of the room where Chowdhury was staying, the team found 14 passports belonging to nine Bangladeshi nationals and two diaries containing records of a large number of financial transactions.

It has also emerged that a case is pending against Jahingir Alam at the Kathmandu District Court over allegations that he kidnapped and held a Bangladeshi national hostage. He has reportedly been attending court hearings in the case since March 26, 2024.

APF Deputy Spokesperson and DSP Shailendra Thapa said all five detainees had been handed over to the Department of Immigration for further investigation and necessary legal proceedings.
