NTA says internet charges remain unchanged

Kathmandu, October 10: The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has clarified that internet service charges have not been increased and warned that service providers charging more than the approved rates or operating without authorization in ways that adversely affect consumers will face action.

Responding to news reports published in various media outlets about an increase in internet service charges, the Authority said it had recently received no proposals from internet and email service providers to raise their charges. It also clarified that it had not granted approval for any fee increase.

The Authority stated that the charges imposed by telecommunications service providers for their services must be fair and reasonable. It reminded providers that, under its directives, they must submit their proposed tariffs for approval at least three months in advance, clearly specifying the date on which the new rates would take effect.

The Authority also reminded service providers of the legal requirement to publish their approved tariffs publicly. They are prohibited from charging more than the approved rates, increasing charges without prior approval, or operating services without authorization in ways that adversely affect consumers.

Warning that violations of these provisions would invite action against service providers, the Authority said it would take measures in accordance with the Telecommunications Act and its regulations.
