Kathmandu, September 24: The number of passengers on Flydubai’s flight was encouraging on its second day of operating regular daily flights to Pokhara International Airport, which began yesterday.
According to Jagannath Niraula, General Manager of Pokhara International Airport, more than 140 passengers arrived and more than 120 passengers departed.
He said, “The number of passengers on the second day’s flight is also encouraging. There were more than 140 arriving passengers and more than 120 departing passengers. There may be only a slight difference in the figures.”
Nearly three years after the airport came into operation, Flydubai began operating daily international flights from Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Flydubai’s Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, with a seating capacity of 166, landed at Pokhara at 6:18 p.m. Nepal time on flight FZ1165, carrying 113 passengers. The same aircraft then departed for Dubai at 7:55 p.m. on flight FZ1166, carrying 152 passengers.
The Flaydubai has introduced daily flights in Dubai-Pokhara-Dubai sector, however, whether the airline will continue to operate its service permanently or not, it is not sure.
The government should provide further incentives to the airline, while local businesses should also contribute to making the service sustainable. Local businesses should focus on attracting tourists directly to Pokhara, while the government should encourage manpower companies to offer discounts to passengers flying to and from Pokhara. Similarly, businesses should focus on exporting vegetables and other products from Pokhara to West Asian countries.
