NAC’s wide body aircraft continues to grounded at Narita International Airport

Kathmandu, September 21: Flights of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) have been continuously cancelled because its grounded wide-body aircraft have not been repaired.

NAC has cancelled the Kathmandu–Narita and Narita–Kathmandu flights scheduled for Tuesday. One of its wide-body aircraft is grounded in Narita, Japan. The flights had to be cancelled after the plan to repair the aircraft and bring it back to Kathmandu did not proceed as scheduled. As a result, hundreds of passengers who had booked tickets to travel during the festive season have been left stranded.

The other wide-body aircraft owned by NAC has been taken to Italy for scheduled maintenance. NAC has a fleet of four aircraft for international flights—two wide-body and two narrow-body aircraft.

With both of its wide-body aircraft grounded, NAC has so far been forced to cancel nearly a dozen flights. This has caused the corporation losses amounting to tens of millions of rupees and big damage in its international reputation. NAC’s narrow-body aircraft operate only on shorter routes, while wide-body aircraft are required for long-haul flights.
