Kathmandu, September 20: A total of 579 people from 55 teams have obtained permits to climb mountains in Nepal during the autumn season of 2026. According to the Department of Tourism, as of Saturday, 432 male and 147 female climbers had obtained permits to climb 11 different mountains.
Department Director Nisha Thapa Raut said that 579 climbers from 67 countries, including Nepal, have obtained permits for mountaineering during this year’s autumn season. “The largest number of permits has been issued to climbers from China, while the highest number of permits has been issued for Mt. Manaslu,” she said. The government has collected Rs. 235.18 million in mountaineering fees (revenue) from the permits.
According to Raut, 366 male and 127 female climbers from 41 teams have obtained permits to climb Manaslu during the autumn season. Revenue of Rs. 224.81 million has been collected from these permits. The government collected Rs. 7,782,450 from permits to climb Mt. Dhaulagiri I, Rs. 688,050 from Makalu I, and Rs. 76,528 from Danga Himal.
Similarly, Rs. 121,360 was collected from permits to climb Gangapurna West, Rs. 186,445 from Thorong Peak, Rs. 53,270 from Norbu Khang, Rs. 306,200 from Annapurna IV, Rs. 366,240 from Chamlang, Rs. 612,000 from Baruntse, and Rs. 76,500 from permits to climb Lamjung Himal.
According to the department, the highest number of permits for autumn mountaineering have been issued to climbers from China (117), followed by Russia (53), France (41), the United States (39), and the United Kingdom (28).
