Kathmandu, September 2: In response to recent remarks in Nepali media and online platforms accusing China of “lack of transparency in hydrological and meteorological data,” the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu has stated that after the catastrophic mudslide at the China-Nepal Gyirong/Rasuwa port on August 26, China has made every effort to restore data transmission channels despite difficulties such as damaged monitoring stations, traffic disruption, and signal instability in the affected watershed.
China has been continuously providing the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology of Nepal with key hydrological and meteorological data from the affected watershed on a daily basis as well as sharing timely hydrological information with other Nepali authorities. The allegations of “lack of transparency in China’s hydrological and meteorological data” are highly inconsistent with the facts and are intended to disrupt Nepal-China disaster relief cooperation. “China has always upheld the spirit of humanitarianism, fully supported Nepal’s disaster response decision-making, and taken concrete actions to safeguard the lives and property of the people of our two countries”, the Embassy spokesman has stated.
“China will continue to help Nepal to overcome the difficulties and rebuild our homes”, the Embassy has stated.
