Kathmandu, Aug 30: Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle has assured flood-affected communities and rescue teams in Nuwakot that the government will provide whatever resources are needed for rescue, relief, treatment and rehabilitation.
Wagle made the assurance during an inspection of several disaster-hit areas in the district on Saturday. He first visited the Relief and Rescue Command Post at Bidur, where Nepal Army Lieutenant General Ranjit Thapa briefed him on ongoing operations.
According to Thapa, security teams have been searching for missing people since Wednesday, with priority given to those believed to be trapped inside hydropower tunnels. Authorities are also providing food, temporary shelter and other essentials to displaced residents. Bailey bridges are urgently needed in several locations, he said.
Wagle told rescue teams to request additional resources whenever necessary and assured them of the government’s full backing. He also inspected the Army’s aerial rescue centre and relief distribution facilities at Gauthali Barracks.
The minister met families searching for relatives missing at hydropower projects in Nuwakot and Rasuwa. He said rescuing people trapped inside tunnels remained a key priority and urged families to cooperate with security agencies.
Wagle later visited flood-ravaged Dhunge Bazaar and Devighat Bazaar, assessing damage and speaking with affected residents. He inspected a damaged bridge along the Galchhi Rasuwagadhi road and visited temporary shelters housing rescued residents.
He also checked the health of flood survivors and met medical personnel treating them.
Later, Wagle and Communications Minister Dr Bikram Timilsina met elected representatives and political leaders in Nuwakot to discuss coordinated rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts. Wagle said the central government would ensure that affected communities do not face shortages of essential assistance.
