Kathmandu, Aug 24: Eight Nepali manufacturers will showcase vehicles and automotive products made or assembled in Nepal at the NADA Auto Show 2026, to be held from August 25 to 30. It will highlight the country’s gradual shift from an import dependent automobile market toward domestic production.

The “Made in Nepal/Made for Nepal” pavilion will feature electric motorcycles, automotive batteries, lubricants, helmets and other locally produced automotive products. Manufacturers including Yatri, Asian Batteries, Kohinoor Plastic Industries, Nepal Lube Oil and Purwanchal Lube Oil are taking part in the pavilion.
The auto show, which begins Tuesday, is being organised as a special golden jubilee edition to mark the 50th anniversary of the NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal.
NADA President Surendra Kumar Upreti said the growing presence of locally produced automotive goods reflects a gradual change in Nepal’s automobile industry.
“Nepal is no longer limited to being a country that only imports vehicles. We are gradually moving toward self- reliance and domestic industry,” Upreti said.
International automobile brands will also maintain a strong presence at the show, alongside Nepali products, NADA said.
The automobile sector has expanded significantly over the past five decades. In 1977, two years after NADA was established, only 801 new vehicles were registered in Nepal in a year. Today, around 5.5 million vehicles are registered nationwide, with motorcycles accounting for about 84 percent of new registrations.
The sector has also become a major source of government revenue. Nepal imported vehicles and related products worth around Rs 470 billion over the past five fiscal years, generating approximately Rs 351 billion in customs revenue, according to NADA. The sector contributed more than Rs 75 billion in government revenue in the last fiscal year alone.
Alongside revenue generation, the industry has developed a nationwide commercial network comprising dealerships, spare parts and aftermarket suppliers, trained mechanics and service technicians, auto financing and vehicle insurance providers.
The sector has also expanded its engagement with the government on policies covering vehicle emissions, safety standards and taxation.
NADA said the growth of domestic manufacturing and assembly alongside international brands shows that Nepal’s automobile industry is gradually developing beyond vehicle imports.
The 2026 auto show is expected to provide a platform for both domestic manufacturers and international brands to display their products and technologies to Nepali consumers.
