
Kathmandu, 22 August: The Public Administration Association of Nepal (PAAN) has announced that Dr Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha and former secretary Rameshwar Prasad Khanal will receive the Hem Bahadur Malla Honour for their significant contributions to public administration, public service, management and institutional development.
At a press conference jointly organised by PAAN and Salt Trading Corporation Limited on Friday, the association announced Dr Makaju Shrestha as the recipient of the 2081 BS Hem Bahadur Malla Honour and former secretary Khanal as the recipient of the 2082 BS honour.
PAAN Chair Madhuraman Acharya said the two were selected in recognition of their notable contributions to public administration, public service, management and institutional development.
The honour carries a cash prize of Rs 200,000 for each recipient and will be presented on August 24.
Dr Shrestha is being honoured for his contribution to health services and institutional development, particularly his significant role in the establishment and operation of Dhulikhel Hospital. Former secretary Khanal is being honoured for his contribution to the promotion of public administration and public services.
A selection committee led by former secretary and former PAAN chair Krishna Gyawali was formed to select the recipients.
PAAN has been conferring the Hem Bahadur Malla Honour annually since 2003 on individuals who have made significant contributions to public administration, management, public distribution, public services and matters of public concern. The honour was established in memory of Hem Bahadur Malla, former leader and manager of Salt Trading Corporation, in recognition of his contribution to public service delivery and management.
The association said the honour has previously been conferred on 21 distinguished personalities for their contributions to public administration, management, health, education, justice, diplomacy, social service and other areas of public concern.
