
Kathmandu, August 19: The meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal held today (Bhadra 3) took 10 decisions concerning education, air services, infrastructure, administration and legal reforms. The meeting decided to accept grant assistance worth approximately Rs 2.73 billion from the Government of Japan for a project to improve air traffic control at Tribhuvan International Airport. It also approved the signing of a bilateral air services agreement between Nepal and Saudi Arabia.
In the education sector, the government decided to increase the monthly remuneration grant provided by the federal government for early childhood development facilitators, school employees and school support staff by Rs 5,000. It also decided to set the salaries of teachers working under teaching assistance grant quotas at the secondary level (Grades 9–10) and basic level (Grades 6–8) at the starting salary rates of third-class secondary and third-class lower-secondary teachers, respectively.
The Cabinet approved the Software Development and Operation Committee (Formation) Order, 2083, and gave approval for establishing a sub-centre of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) in Nepal. It also decided to form a Nepali delegation led by the Foreign Minister to participate in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly to be held in New York, United States. In addition, it approved a delegation led by a joint secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs to participate in the 14th meeting on border management to be held in India.
The meeting approved the submission to the Federal Parliament of a bill to amend the Payment and Settlement Act, 2075, and a bill to amend the Citizen Investment Trust Act, 2047. On the administrative front, the Cabinet also decided to promote Joint Secretary Kamal Prasad Bhattarai to the Gazetted Special Class and appoint him as Chief Secretary of the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers of Bagmati Province.
