Modi congratulates  newly appointed PM Sushila Karki

Kathmandu, Sept 13: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his congratulations to Sushila Karki, who has taken charge as Nepal’s Prime Minister, leading the new interim government formed after the Gen Z movement.

Through social media, Modi wished Karki well and reaffirmed India’s strong commitment to the peace, progress, and prosperity of Nepal’s people. “Heartfelt congratulations to Honorable Mrs. Sushila Karki on assuming office as the Prime Minister of Nepal’s interim government. India remains fully committed to the peace, progress, and prosperity of our brothers and sisters in Nepal,” he wrote.

Earlier, the Indian government had welcomed the formation of Nepal’s new interim government. In a statement issued on Friday, the Ministry of External Affairs expressed support for the interim government led by former Chief Justice Karki, noting that it is expected to help maintain peace and stability in the country.

President Ramchandra Paudel appointed Karki as the interim Prime Minister on Friday night, making her the first woman to hold this position in Nepal. Following her appointment, the President dissolved the House of Representatives, acting on Karki’s recommendation, effective from 11 p.m. on Friday.

The date for the next general election has been set for Falgun 21, when voters will elect the new House of Representatives.
