
Kathmandu, October 20: The size of the public debt is increasing as the expenditure is more than the country’s income. Nepal’s outstanding debt in the first quarter of the current fiscal year has reached 252.3 billion rupees.
According to the Public Debt Management Office, public debt has increased by Rs 136.31 billion in three months. This includes an internal debt of Rs1.15 billion and an external debt of Rs21.31 billion. During this period, the government has paid a loan of Rs 69 billion. According to the office, 83 billion 781 million rupees have been paid by interest and interest till the month of May.
According to the office, the change in the foreign exchange rate has reduced the public debt by Rs 5.58 billion in September compared to the previous year. The government’s internal debt stands at Rs 12,36.3 billion and external debt at Rs 12,86.73 billion. The outstanding internal debt stood at Rs118.9 billion and the external debt at Rs1253.19 billion.
