On/Off the Record

There are many issues to write about, yet, these days, this scribe is focused on issues related to the nation’s independent existence as foreigners have become active in destroying this nation. There are organized groups of traitors who are in power and serving those foreigners’ interests. Besides, they are involved in rampant corruption ensuring the future of themselves and their families. The government is running by taking debt but the leaders are not worried about how long would they be able to run the government by borrowing debts. Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal, the other day, said that the government has no funds to spend. The general sector expenditure has increased but revenue sources have not increased. The government is unable to manage the necessary funds for the capital expenditure. The government has reached the position that it is raising debts to pay back the instalments and interests of the past debts. If the trend of taking debts to manage general sector expenditure continues, shortly, the country will fall into a debt trap like in Sri Lanka in the recent past. Those economic observers, analysts and political leaders belonging to the ruling parties don’t speak on such a serious issue, although, they know the reason for the failure of the economy. A large group of construction companies are knocking on the door of concerned ministries for the payment of their bills. Some construction companies have not been able to get payment for the past two years. The government agencies owe contractors around 60 billion rupees and they are not hopeful that the government will clear their bills soon. The dairy farmers are unable to get their payment from the government undertaking, Dairy Development Corporation, pretending that it faced loss from the dairy products due to which, the Corporation was unable to clear the farmers’ payments. The government is facing an odd situation, from which the entire economy is passing through a worse situation. Oddly, those leaders are claiming that the economy is heading towards a positive direction at a time when the banks are holding enough deposits but are unable to invest in loans. The factories are unable to operate in a full phase as market demands have declined. Shutters are closed in the business hubs due to a recession in the market.
The main reason behind the deteriorating state in all sectors is the political system that we have adopted. During that time when the constitutional assembly was busy writing the constitution, we remember, many times, we had written that we were entering into a dark tunnel but there was no outlet at the end. Therefore, we must return to the point where the journey was started. Today, in about one decade of promulgation of the constitution, it has been proved that we were true. Now, the delayed process for a correction may cause a heavy loss to the nation. Already, the ten-year-long armed insurgency pushed the nation five decades back and if we don’t take the initiative to correct the past mistakes, earliest as possible, the country will be declared a failed state. A more serious thing is that at that stage, will we be able to safeguard our country’s sovereignty and independence and will we be able to feel the pride of being a Nepali!
These days, some leaders belonging to the Nepali Congress and UML have started to speak for an amendment to the constitution. The process should be started as soon as possible. Finally, the leaders should try to understand the ground reality that the present system with federalism, secularism and republicanism has already failed in Nepal. The next better option is to restore the 1990 constitution. If the political parties don’t try to realize the situation, then, without any delay, all the religious groups having believe in the Sanatan religion, should be united; all those patriotic groups who are for restoration of the institution of monarchy, also have to be united without any delay and launch yet another people’s movement to save the nation and the Nepali identity.
