
Kathmandu, June 18: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayankaji Shrestha said that China is the major destination for Nepali students and it has strengthened the relationship between the two countries.
While inaugurating the one-day Chinese higher education exhibition organized by the Nepal-China Cultural and Educational Council on Tuesday, the Minister said that many Nepalis who have studied in China are making good contributions in various fields by working in Nepal.
Expressing his belief that this number will increase further due to the scholarships provided by the Chinese government, Foreign Minister Shrestha opined that those who receive education from Chinese universities can contribute greatly to the development of Nepal.
The Minister further said that he is happy to know that there is cooperation between various universities between Nepal and China, he said that a large number of Nepali students visit China and it fulfils their educational needs. Saying that Chinese professors also visit Nepal, he discussed that such visits have broadened and deepened people-to-people relations. Mentioning that Chinese language volunteer teachers also come to Nepal every year and contribute to the educational development of Nepal, he said that this also improves the relationship between the two countries.
He said that the development of Nepal has the support and cooperation of the Chinese government and the Chinese people. He said that China’s financial and technical assistance to Nepal has made a great contribution in infrastructure construction, connectivity, industry establishment, manpower development, health, education, water resources, sports and other fields. Among them, education is an important help, he said. He discussed that China has been supporting Nepal through scholarship programs, short-term and long-term training programs, language-focused initiatives, institutional support, etc. He said that a large number of Nepali students are pursuing higher education in China through these scholarships.
