Sekhar Koirala opines to change present election system

Kathmandu, June 15: Nepali Congress’ senior leader Dr Sekhar Koirala has opined for a change in the present election system for political stability and economic development.

Addressing a press conference organized by the Nepal Press Union, Dhanusha, in Janakpur, Koirala remarked that the present election system cannot allow the development of the nation, and also cannot give political stability.

“Without political stability, development is not possible and under the present system, there is no chance to bag a majority by one single political party,” Koirala said.

Therefore, the present political system has to be changed, Koirala remarked.

Accordingly, Koirala opined that criminalization in politics has inclined, which is dangerous.

“When political leaders, businessmen and bureaucrats stand together, such a situation will develop,” Koirala said.

He illustrated that the problem of loan sharks and cooperatives is the result of the criminalization of politics.
