
Kathmandu, June 3: After the government slashed 24.5 billion rupees in grants to the municipalities in the new fiscal year’s budget presented last week, chiefs of the municipalities have been agitated and launched a sit-in protest in front of the Finance Ministry.
The municipality chiefs came to Kathmandu to launch a protest against the government’s decision.
The government has reduced the grant amount to the local municipalities due to a decline in its revenue.
Bhim Dhungana, chairman of the Municipalities Association, said that after the government slashed the grants to the municipalities, they were compelled to launch agitation.
