Kathmandu, May 25: Rajendra Lingden, chairman of the Rastriya Prajantatra Party (RPP), said that federalism in Nepal is burdensome and dangerous even from the point of view of economic and national unity. He said this while presenting a political report of the party in the central working committee meeting of the party which started on Friday, May 24 in Kathmandu.
Lingden said that the country cannot burden a three-tier state structure and give salaries and allowances including other facilities to a large number of people’s representatives. He said that for the long-term interests of the country, it is necessary to establish a new understanding in the country by developing a national consensus among all parties and cancelling the provincial system. He said that everyone must protect the country from long-term troubles and mentioned that federalism is not the basis of the country’s prosperity but has become a synonym for economic burden and distortion.
Lingden said that Nepal’s credibility in the neighborhood and the international community has weakened due to the tendency to have any relationship with anyone for the sake of power. He said that due to the actions of the ruling party and the major parties, the relationship that deteriorates and the damage that the country has to suffer is not only borne by the respective parties but the entire country, and that foreign relations should be equal, not close or distant. He said that the country should be at the center and not the party and power in foreign relations.
The provincial chiefs of the seven provinces of the RPP have submitted reports detailing the work progress of the provinces. He said that there is an agenda to discuss the various reports and to inform the meeting about the report on Saturday and the progress made on the geopolitical focus.
