Clean Bagmati but when?

BABBLES

By Babbler

Can we see clean Bagmati in our lifetime? We are not sure. Last week, the Clean Bagmati Campaign observed completion of the 12th year, yet, the Bagmati has not been cleaned. The government spent trillions of rupees to make clean Bagmati, yet, the Bagmati river is the same. To recall the pre-1990 era, the local authorities didn’t allow sending human waste to the Bagmati and other rivers directly. The local administrations had made septic tanks mandatory while constructing a new house. The local authorities didn’t allow the use of the Dol area, or say, an agricultural area with an irrigation facility, for human settlement. Along with the adoption of the multiparty democracy, things were changed. All these things happened in the name of democracy as land mafias became strong.

Our ancestors believed that the residential buildings should not be taller than the rooftops of the temples. Perhaps, these cretaries were developed considering the earthquake threats.

When rivers become polluted, different authorities have been established and to channel the human wastes, drainages have been constructed on both sides of the rivers, still, people are throwing waste in rivers. Every week, different groups of people volunteer to clean rivers with the belief that the residents will become aware of keeping the rivers clean. No, this is just a waste of time. The only remedy for ending the practice of throwing waste in rivers is a heavy financial punishment. If effectively applied the financial punishment practice, then only the residents will stop disposing of their waste in rivers and from the next day, we can see clean rivers.

Jatra, Jatra, and Maha Jatra

The Nepali film based on comedy and humor, Maha Jatra has established a new record at the box office. Indeed, this “loktantra” which we are practicing, itself is a Maha Jatra. Every day we can see Jatra (a comedy show) in Parliament. The political leaders are performing as comedians and thieves. Presently, there is a competition among the leaders in establishing the record that who is the big thieve. These leaders have transformed this loktantra into the loot-tantra. We are the foolish guy to trust on those, who believe, the main qualification to become a political leader is to face a jail term, that too on the charge of murder cases. Moreover, those murderers are the top-ranking political leaders of the day in the country.

What is the government’s policy?

This is the time to present the budget for the new fiscal year and this is the time for manipulating the budget by the businessmen for their personal benefits. Some businessmen are lobbying to increase the customs duty on the e-vehicles. Will the government listen to the businessmen, we have to wait until the budget presentation on May 28.

Meanwhile, the Nepal Rastra Bank has increased the limit of the hire-purchase and land purchase loans for commercial banks. The governor is appointed from the UML quota and when there was the finance minister from the Nepali Congress, the governor performed non-cooperation by reducing the limit on vehicles and land purchase loans. The entire real estate business was thus halted and also the vehicle business faced problems from the NRB’s directives. Moreover, the commercial banks suffered a heavy loss due to the slump in the market.

This is an example of how such immature monetary policy and economic policy will affect the economy. The governor’s policy further accelerated the ongoing economic recession, no doubt.

In such a flexible and unstable economic policy, can we expect foreign direct investment?

QUOTES OF THE WEEK

Let’s remove the agent who sells the country’s secret information to foreigners from parliament, be it a minister or the general secretary of a party.

Isn’t it an act of treason that the home minister of the country knows about such a thing, but does not take action?

Dipesh Shahi

This type of political tamasha can hardly take place in any other place in the world where this level of vagrancy, dishonesty, impunity, collusion, impunity, rioting, lack of direction, indolence, robbery, laziness and badness can happen! Looking at the economy, the country has already become bankrupt!

What else is needed to accept that federalism has not only failed but has been proven to be disastrous?

Babu Lal Bhandari

It is not difficult to understand the meaning of his (Shashikat Agrawal’s) suggestion for dismantling the Nepal Army organization. The major part of the country’s economy is now in the possession of this community. That is why they are saying this. Otherwise, they would have said – to cancel federalism, unnecessary commissions and committees, etc., which burden the country, and reduce the number of parliament members. Reduce corruption!

Lokesh Dhakal

First of all, we have to improve the policy and system, and above all, the intention of the political leadership should be improved.

Rajendra Lingden

There is no dispute about the nationalism of the kings.

Khildhoj Thapa

If you want to know about the red passport incident connected with Dhanraj Gurung, read the memoir by Hemant Malla, an investigation officer of the Nepal Police at that time.

KP Dhungana

Parliament is a place for debate and discussion, not a place for fighting, for fighting, they can go to the open theatre.

Amreshkumar Singh

Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa is a foreign spy. Thapa is the “point man” of the American embassy.

Arjun Gyawali

This system is not called democracy, it is called “joker-tantra”.
