UML wins HoR by-election in Ilam-2

Kathmandu, April 30: UML’s candidate Suhang Nembang has won the election to the post of House of Representation (HoR).

Nembang bagged 27 thousand 772 votes against his nearest rival Nepali Congress candidate Dambar Bahadur Khadka’s 21 thousand nine hundred 42 votes.

The Maoist Center, Nepal Communist Party led by Netrabikram Chand and Nepal Pariwar Dal championing Christianity in the country, had supported UML candidate Nembang.

According to election officer Keshabprasad Ghimire, Dakendrasingh Limbu (Thegim) campaigning for identity agenda, secured the third position with 11 thousand four hundred 57 votes and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP)’s candidate Milan Limbu bagged five thousand 50 votes securing fourth position.

Manibahadur Limbu of the Mangol National Organisation bagged only eight hundred 16 votes.

Out of one hundred 15 thousand 889 votes, 69 thousand 287 voters participated in the election in Ilam 2.

Candidates from 12 political parties plus seven independent candidates were contesting the election.

Mush-hyped candidate of RSP not only defeated the election but also lost the bail.

Be that as it may, those campaigning for an identity agenda, were able to bag third position only. The other message given by the by-election is that Ilam’s voters still believe in those traditional political parties. Moreover, UML has been able to save its strength in Ilam.
