Federalism seems to have failed in Nepal. It is evident from the jatras we have noticed in all provinces in the last 16 months when we saw the formation of two to three governments in all provinces except for Madhes.
In the federal system, the province should be semi-autonomous and can decide their government on their own. But in Nepal, a change in the federal government leads to changes in all provincial governments.
The row in the forming of the government in Sudurpashchim because of the husband-wife dispute in Janata Unmukti Party, the illegal measures taken by the ruling parties to form the government in Gandaki, the energy spent by the ruling parties for forming government in Bagmati and the ongoing dispute in Koshi prove that the provinces have become irrelevant and seeds for instability. These provinces which cannot decide on their own and cannot form stable governments have been only a financial burden for the nation.
