Kathmandu, March 4: The sudden incline in the activities of those political players has increased the possibility of a change in the coalition partners.
After a meeting between Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal and UML chair K.P. Oli on Sunday morning, again they met in the evening. The frequency of meetings between Dahal and Oli indicates a possible change in the present coalition partners.
There is the possibility of a new ruling alliance between the CPN (Maoist Centre), CPN-UML, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), informed a source.
Considering the activities of the political players, Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba has informed all the ministers from the Nepali Congress to be ready to tender resignation anytime.
Of late, bitterness and distrust have intensified between PM Dahal and Deuba, a major partner in the present coalition government.
According to sources, UML chairman KP Sharma Oli, general secretary Shankar Pokharel, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) president Ravi Lamichhane, Maoist deputy general secretary Barshaman Pun, vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) chairman Upendra Yadav almost reached an agreement on the basic issues of the new ruling alliance.
As per the agreement reached in the new alliance, RSP chairman Lamichhane will come to power with the portfolio of home minister including deputy prime minister, while Dahal will continue as Prime Minister. Similarly, CPN-UML will get the share of the National Assembly chairperson. Oli is also sure to agree with the dissenting points of the transitional justice bill.
A meeting of the Law Committee is scheduled to be held on Monday to approve the bill in this regard after Oli agreed on the points of disagreement on transitional justice.
UML vice-chairman Bishnu Poudel and CPN (Maoist Centre) deputy general secretary Barshaman Pun again held discussions with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Oli after a three-hour-long discussion at Yadav’s residence.
Meanwhile, Deuba is making his final efforts to save the present coalition government. Deuba has performed with maximum flexibility, including calling back to all the NC ministers, and is even ready to give up the National Assembly chairman’s post, sources say.
“The present coalition will not break due to our cause,” said Deuba’s close aide.
