Kathmandu, March 3: A meeting was held between Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and UML Chairman KP Oli.
According to Baluwatar sources, PM Dahal met with the leader of the main opposition party and former Prime Minister Oli in Baluwatar this morning.
Dahal has been expressing his displeasure in public after the word “Maoist violence” was included in the report of the Nepali Congress Vice Chairman and Defense Minister, Purna Bahadur Khadka, who participated in the government, in addition to the severe criticism regarding the alliance with the Maoist Center in the Mahasamiti meeting of the Nepali Congress.
After criticizing the Maoists in the Mahasamiti meeting, PM Dahal became suspicious of the Congress and intensified his meetings with the UML chair Oli. Dahal believes that such an expression from the ruling party is serious at a time when the issue of transitional justice should be taken forward with the support of the opposition.
UML has already given a ‘green single’ to help the Maoist candidate for the National Assembly chairman to be held on March 12. When Dahal was made Prime Minister, the UML-led coalition decided to give the chairmanship of the National Assembly to a Maoist candidate. However, after the Maoists broke the alliance with the UML and cooperated with the Congress in the presidential election, Krishna Prasad Sitaula of the Congress claimed the post of president.
The Maoist leaders are putting pressure on the party chairman Dahal saying that there will be zero Maoist presence in the Constitutional Council as soon as the Prime Minister is gone from the party’s hands.
Congress leader Sitaula, who was elected as a member of the National Assembly from the coalition, announced his candidacy. However, the Maoist Standing Committee meeting has decided to give a party candidate the post of chairman.
Today’s meeting between the PM and Oli is also related to concluding the TRC bill, say sources.
