MPs demand to finalize the TRC bill quickly

Kathmandu, February 24: In the meeting of the Law, Justice, and Human Rights Committee under the Federal Parliament House of Representatives held on Friday at the Singha Darbar, the parliamentarians emphasized that the transitional justice bill should be presented as soon as possible to the committee or to the House of Representatives meeting.

The Chief Whip of Nepali Congress, Ramesh Lekhak, requested the Law, Justice, and Human Rights Committee to finalize the transitional justice bill within a week. He proposed that the Bill should be discussed once and finalized by March 2, taking into account the pressure of the victims, civil society, and the media.

Chief Whip Lekhak said that since there are only a few points in the bill that have yet to be agreed upon, they should try to discuss and finalize it in a meeting.

CPN-UML whip Mahesh Bertaula suggested forming a sub-committee under the Law, Justice, and Human Rights Committee for thematic discussions to finalize the transitional justice bill. He opined that a sub-committee is necessary to carry out the work of the committee in a broad manner.
