The agitation month is starting

It is customary for political parties and groups to launch protests immediately after the end of the cold winter season.

Now as the warm days are approaching faster, individuals and parties are preparing to hit the street.

Mostly, the pro-monarchy groups like Durga Prasain, Rastriya Prajatantra Party and its breakaway faction RPP-Nepal led by Kamal Thapa have announced street movement against the present system and for restoration of the Hindu kingdom beginning from February 13.

Earlier in November last year, Durga Prasai staged demonstrations in Kathmandu while the RPP showed its strength in Jhapa and other districts. Likewise, the deposed King also drew big crowds in Bhaktapur and Kapilvastu. Encouraged by the crowd in their programme, the pro-monarchy group have announced the street protests. But their protests, as they have not announced, will not be joint ones, hence it might not be effective. Moreover, when pro-royalists take to the streets, the big political parties come together leaving aside their differences as they did in November last year to foil Prasain-led demonstrations. While the government extended the prohibited areas in Kathmandu, the UML organised a counter-street show against Prasain.

As such, unless the individuals, groups and parties claiming themselves as pro-royalists, launch a joint movement, their protest may not yield the desired results.

However, if the pro-Hindu Kingdom supporters, who are divided into different groups, launch a joint movement, there is a strong possibility of restoration of the 1990 constitution replacing the present constitution imposed by the foreign powers.
