Now, Indian Embassy can spend 20 crore rupees on its own

Kathmandu, 4 January: The “beauty” of the present visit of Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is that the Indian Embassy, without any information to the Nepal government, can spend 20 crore rupees on community projects.

An agreement was inked today between Nepal and India for an increase in the amount for the community grant projects.

Nepal government’s Finance Secretary, Krishnahari Pushakl and Indian Ambassador Navin Shivastav inked the agreement in the presence of Nepali Foreign Minister NP Saud and Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar amidst a function today.

Earlier, the cabinet meeting had approved such a proposal.

In the past, the Embassy could spend 5 crore rupees on such projects without informing the Nepal government.

Such grants were first approved by the government led by Surya Bahadur Thapa. The Nepal government had allowed the Indian Embassy to spend three crore rupees on such projects.

Later, when Baburam Bhattarai became the prime minister, he increased the amount to five crore. Now, the Pushpakamal Dahal-led government, in the process of pleasing India, has increased it by four times more.

Despite strong criticism from the general public, the government has fulfilled the vested Indian interests.
