Kathmandu, 23 December: Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal has publicly said that he is going to change those ministers who have not been able to exhibit their performance properly.
Why he is making such remarks publicly rather than taking action quietly seems strange.
When the PM criticised the ministers for not being able to carry out their responsibilities, the ministers blamed the Prime Minister’s aides, who were intervening in the works of the ministers.
The ministers blamed the PM for taking responsibility for the non-performance of his cabinet.
Of late, PM Dahal’s daughter Ganga Dahal, who is working at the status of the PM’s private secretary, is being criticised for her involvement in the corruption deals,s including developing a setting on the Ncell deal.
PM Dahal’s principal political advisor Haribol Gajurel tendered his resignation, expressing dissatisfaction with the attitude of Ganga Dahal, according to reports.
PM Dahal said that criticism against his daughter was a move against the “loktantra”.
One year of PM Dahal in office:
On 26 December, Prime Minister Dahal completes one year in his office. According to an agreement among the coalition partners, there is one year for PM Dahal to remain as the PM. In the remaining one year, he wants to do something, as he said.
As per the gentleman agreement among the coalition partners, after Dahal completes two years, NC (perhaps Deuba) will lead the government for two years and then the Unified Socialist Party’s Madhav Nepal will lead the government for the remaining one year.
Nevertheless, of late, PM Dahal is identified as the prime minister who is fond of flying on helicopters and inaugurating small projects, despite his commitment to speaking less and working more for the nation that he had expressed immediately after he became the PM for the third time last year.
In fact, PM Dahal is trying to hide his weaknesses by talking about a cabinet reshuffle.
This is a coalition government and without the consent of the senior leaders in the alliance parties, PM Dahal alone cannot change the ministers.
Moreover, PM Dahal is strongly dissatisfied with Finance Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat but without the consent of NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, it is impossible.
Only by changing the ministers from his party, the Maoist Center, the mission cannot be completed.
Ministers who are in the red zone:
PM has understood that Prakashsharan Mahat has not been able to perform his responsibilities properly. Therefore, Mahat is the first target.
Accordingly, PM Dahal is dissatisfied with Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha and Energy Minister Shakti Basnet and he wants to drop them.
Accordingly, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Sudan Kirati, is seen creating stunts but performing less. Therefore, he wants to drop Kirati.
PM Dahal is also dissatisfied with Mahindra Ray Yadav, Minister for Drinking Water, as he was unable to accelerate the repair works of the Melamchi Project.
Accordingly, PM Dahal is not happy with ministers Ashok Rai, Beduram Bhushaal, Prakash Jwala, Dhanaraj Gurung, Anita Devi, and Ranjita Shrestha. Nevertheless, those ministers represent different political parties and it is not an easy job for PM Dahal to drop them.
