Govt completing a year without making concrete achievements

By Our Reporter

The government is completing one year soon. The government may publish a lengthy list of achievements next week, but in reality, the government did not make any remarkable achievements in a year. Yes, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal set a record in delivering speeches, he addressed at least three programmes a day, but he did not introduce any measure in favour of the people. Even the victims of loan sharks failed to get justice.

Although the government may boast about arresting the people involved in fake Bhutanese refugee scams, Lalita Niwas case and the gold smuggling incident, the cases have now become weak and it may not be a surprise if Bal Krishna Khand of NC is imprisoned in the case related to fake Bhutanese refugee case gets released within a few days. The Tribhuvan International is still becoming a haven for gold smugglers as gold is being seized almost every day.

The government also failed to maintain good governance and improve the national economy.

Cases of corruption are increasing and corrupt people are getting protection.

Instead, when the government is completing its one year in office, Prime Minister Dahal himself is dragged into controversy over the sale of Ncell’s shares. His daughter Ganga Dahal is portrayed as the mastermind behind the sale of Ncell shares to the British Company Spectrolite by the Malaysian company Axiata.

After Axiata sold the shares at Rs. 6 billion which it had purchased at Rs. 143 billion in 2016, the involvement of PM Dahal and NC president Sher Bahadur Deuba are suspected in the deal. The country lost billions of rupees from the sale.

Similarly, PM’s political advisor Haribol Gajurel tendered his resignation just a few weeks before the government was to complete its first year in office stating that the government’s performance in the last two months was not satisfactory. His resignation served as the best example to prove that the government was unable to deliver.

Even on the parliamentary front, the government failed to pass any essential bills except for the one related to loan sharking. The government failed to take the main opposition into confidence. Instead, people dared to take to the streets openly challenging the federal democratic system.

Yes, the visit of the UN Secretary-General could be included in the list of achievements, but the people in general have felt no achievements in the last year after Pushpa Kamal Dahal became the PM for the third time.
