Will the UML government allow a joint venture between Nepali and foreign private sector investors to privatise the Nepali forest? If they will, Enso Forest Development Ltd, a Finnish private company and some Nepali business tycoons are ready to implement the Operational Forest Management Plans (OFMP) being developed from May 1995 to December 1995 by the Forest Management and Utilization Project (FMUDP)
FMUDP is working within the National Forest Division of the Department of Forest/Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation. The project is receiving U.S. $ 5.30m from FINNDA, U.S. $ 1.25m from the Finnish Fertilizer Fund and U.S. $ 0.36m from HMG. Enso has been involved in the technical assistance needed for the preparation of the OFMP.
