
Kathmandu, 18 April: Renowned Irish climber Noel Hanna has died during the Mt Annapurna expedition on Monday while another has gone missing and one has been rescued safe.
Hanna whose expedition was facilitated by the Seven Summit Treks, Kathmandu died in the Camp IV of the Annapurna. The 56-year-old climber from Ireland was found dead on the Camp IV as he was descending from the peak following his successful climbing. His body was picked up from an altitude of 6,000 meters by a choopper this morning and it has been brought to the TU Teaching Hospital for a postmortem.
Hanna had summited Everest 10 times and climbed the highest point on all seven continents.
In 2006, he climbed the world’s highest peak and then cycled from the route’s base camp to the sea in eastern India, reaching the Bay of Bengal after a marathon two-week bike ride.
Annapurna, the world’s tenth highest mountain, is avalanche-prone, technically difficult and has a higher death rate than Everest.
