PM Dahal under excessive pressure, cabinet expansion unlikely today

Kathmandu, 27 March: When small political parties in the alliance government demanded more portfolios, Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal is unable to expand his cabinet today.

Nepali Congress vice president Purna Bahadur Khadka informed that the PM is holding serious discussions with the leaders of the political parties in the alliance and after some days, the cabinet will be expanded.

NC is satisfied with eight ministries and decided to join the government under the command of Purna Bahadur Khadka as the status of deputy prime minister. Khadka may get a defence ministry portfolio, whereas, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat may become the finance minister.

Unified Socialist Party with 10 seats in Parliament has claimed three ministries and also one common candidate from the USP in the by-elections and chief minister in one provincial government.

Other small parties have also put forward high demand from which PM Dahal is facing trouble.

In the meantime, Dahal is afraid of a conspiracy and the formation of an NC-UML coalition government if he will be unable to form the government soon.

Meanwhile, the partners in the alliance government have decided to bring a common minimum programme of the government before the expansion of the cabinet.

For more than one month, 16 ministries have remained vacant.
