Kathmandu, 27 March: Members of House of Representatives (HoR) including those from the ruling alliance have demanded a thorough revision to the bill to amend the the Enforced Disappearances Enquiry, Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act, arguing that several of its provisions aim to protect perpetrators.
Taking part in the deliberations in the HoR on Sunday, the lawmakers reminded the House that the Supreme Court’s ruling that no amnesty be granted in serious criminal offences like murder. They argued that the bill was brought to conclude the transitional justice process without ensuring justice to the victims. “Conflict victims, human rights activists and human rights organisations have objected to the bill, their concerns have to be addressed at least,” the MPs said.
