The government has registered the bill formulated to amend the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Persons Act, 2071 (2014) in the House of Representatives.
The government registered the bill in haste after advocates Gyanendra Raj Aran and Kalyan Budhathoki filed writ petitions against PM Dahal for claiming the responsibility of 5, 000 Maoist-insurgence era deaths while addressing a gathering three years ago.
The Bill was registered as per the decision of a Cabinet meeting.
However, the registration of the Bill has drawn criticism from Human Rights organisations and activists.
The National Human Rights Commission said that the Bill was registered without consulting with it and without making a necessary amendment to the previous bill.
Justice Bishwamber Prasad Shrestha’s bench will hear the writ petitions filed against Dahal.
