The Election Commission has decided to hold the by-election in Tanahun-1 and Bara-2 on April 23, together with the by-election in Chitwan-2.
Deputy Spokesperson for the Election Commission Surya Prasad Aryal informed in a press statement issued on Monday that the EC decided to hold the by-election in Tanahu-1 and Bara-2 also on April 23.
These constituencies have remained vacant after Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Paudel and Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal leader Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav were elected as the President and Vice President respectively.
In the general election held on November 20 last year, Paudel was elected from Tanahu-1 and Yadav from Bara-2.
The seat of Chitwan-2 has fallen vacant after Rastriya Swatantra Party President Rabi Lamichhane, who was elected from the constituency, lost his lawmaker status following the Supreme Court verdict of January 27.
Meanwhile, Manju Sharma Ansari of Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal (JSP-N) has been elected in the vacant seat of the House of Representatives (HoR) under the Proportional Representatives (PR) category.
The Election Commission decided to elect Ansari in the seat of the HoR which had remained vacant after JSP-N lawmaker Shahnaz Rehman died of a heart attack on February 25.
Earlier, JPS-N had decided to send Ansari to represent the PR seat in the HoR.
As per the legal provision, the party has to choose another person from the closed list of the same category of candidates.
Since Rehman was a Muslim woman, the EC elected Ansari, another woman of the same community, to the vacant seat.
